Skilled but not qualified?

Study Tip: Ask Questions

Your trainer is not aware of the difficulties and questions you have unless you tell them. We are here to help and to do this we need you to keep in touch, ask questions and communicate with us.

Study Tip: Read and Research

The training materials provided cover the content of the unit you are studying but it is important to look outside of these materials, using resources, work samples, available templates, websites etc.

Study Tip: Be Realistic

Make sure that your goals and study schedule are realistic and allow for other commitments in your life. If you don’t you will find yourself becoming frustrated and falling behind.

Study Tip: Keep Consistent

You need to maintain a regular commitment to your study. It is easy to get out of the habit of study.

Study Tip: Plan

Select units that you are comfortable with to start. Don’t start with units that are most challenging, as this can reduce your motivation. This is a good idea when starting back into study, creating habits, making timetables and learning to manage time.

Study Tip: Establish a Study Schedule

You should spend between 2 - 4 hours each week (depending on prior knowledge and study habits). Make sure that the time you choose to study is when you are most effective, otherwise you can spend hours reading and researching and not achieve anything.

Study Tip: Establish Weekly Goals

It is easy to let time slip past, if you set goals and work towards them you will find it is easier to keep on track. Without goals it is difficult to find the time to spend on your study.

Study Tip: Establish your Motivation

Not many people have time on their hands. Therefore to fit study into your life you need to be clear on why you are doing the course. Clearly defining the purpose for studying will help you stay focused and remain committed to your training.

Identify your reason for studying, write it down and refer to it regularly. Identifying and stating your motivation will enable you to achieve your goals, prioritise and ultimately achieve the qualification.
